
Grace Lutheran Church, Pottstown, seeks a highly skilled church musician to lead our congregation’s music program. The successful applicant will assist in leading worship by utilizing any of our available instruments including our four-manual, 102 rank Allen organ, our Schomacker baby grand piano and/or other instruments as desired. We expect our next Director of Music to play for Sunday worship, funerals, weddings, additional services, direct our small choir and be an integral part of the worship planning team with our pastor and other volunteers. The next Director of Music will benefit from our large music library.
The Director of Music leads the church in a music ministry that will inspire and enhance congregational worship and fellowship, engage all age and skill levels in a variety of music experiences and education, and promote music as an important part of meaningful corporate and personal worship and spiritual growth.

- Strong keyboard skills with the ability to provide accompaniment for a worship service

Supervisor: Church Council & Pastor
Oversight: Choir and volunteer musicians
Hours: Part-Time 8-10 hours/week (flexible, depending upon church season & musician’s skill level). Hours are inclusive of musician’s practice time and preparation.
Plan, organize and lead the ministry of music
- Provide accompaniment for the regularly scheduled Sunday service, currently at 10:15am. Select appropriate music with consultation from Pastor and Music & Worship Team.
- Provide music for those additional services during the year which are approved by the Music and Worship Committee, up to eight (8) services per year. Participate with the choir(s) in joint services with other area churches.
- Work in collaboration with the Pastor and Music and Worship Committee in planning and giving leadership to the congregation’s music program in accordance with the Revised Common Lectionary. Shall meet at least quarterly with and be a voting member of the Music and Worship Team and shall give careful attention to their suggestions and recommendations.
- Play for weddings and funerals held within the church at which music is desired and the Director of Music is available. The services of other musicians may be used only with the permission of the Pastor and Director of Music. The musician shall be remunerated by the family. The guidelines and fees for music provided by the musician shall be found in Grace Church’s policies and guidelines for such events.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including Sunday worship, evening meetings and rehearsals.
Administer the music ministry program
- Oversee requisition and maintenance of musical equipment (unrelated to technology)
- Submit to the church office the titles/composers/arrangers of music to be used and other desired information for inclusion in the service bulletin no later than Tuesday morning of each week. In special circumstances information may be required early as requested by pastor. (Vacation of Director of Music, Pastor or Parish Administrator.)
- Arrange for substitute musicians due to planned vacation
All employees of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church are required to maintain any and all background checks required by Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and as stipulated in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Child Protection Policy. Employees are required to abide by all Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church policies and procedures to include the employee handbook and child protection policy.
Compensation Package
Salary: $13,000-$15,000 dependent upon skill level, education and experience
